Welcome to Foxx Editorial!

Welcome, writerly friends! If you’re ready to take your manuscript, nonfiction proposal, query package, or short/flash fiction story to the next level, you’ve come to the right place. Writing and editing are not easy! The path to publication can feel insurmountable. But, like many challenging things in life, you can’t go over, under, or around them—you have to go through them. That’s where learning and growth happens. That’s where the magic happens. And that’s where I come in! I can help you find a clear path through those revision challenges and get you closer to turning your publication dreams into a reality.

Who am I?

I’m Kathleen, owner and editor at Foxx Editorial, a literary agent at The Rights Factory in Toronto, and a member of the Story Nerd podcast team, offering industry insights, craft advice, and query and first pages reviews. I am a member of Editors Canada and previously, the 2022-23 Primary Co-chair of the Hamilton-Halton branch of Editors Canada. Additionally, I’m a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association. I offer advice from the mindset of a writer, editor, and literary agent.

I’ve recently started a Substack newsletter! I’m aiming for about once a month for a free newsletter that will cover all the things: writing, editing, and querying advice; industry news and hot topics; book news; and just how to navigate this industry in general. Paid subscribers get access to comment and chat features and can submit their queries to be critiqued in another monthly newsletter that only paid subscribers receive, encouraging growth, sharing, and learning. Founding members also get a query and synopsis review OR a review of their first ten pages OR a 60-minute 1:1 consultation. Subscribe below!

When you subscribe for the free newsletter, you can get my Character Development Sheets! It’s a comprehensive guide on how to ensure you’re creating deep, nuanced characters that will resonate with your readers. Check out my article about the importance of developing great characters here!

I recently recorded an episode on the Story Nerd podcast, and afterward, Valerie asked if I’d be interested in joining the team. I gave it some thought and decided OF COURSE I’d like to join the team! How fun is that?! So now, every other Friday starting on April 24th, 2026, you can catch me talking about all things publishing industry and critiquing YOUR queries and first ten pages… FOR FREE! For details on how to submit, sign up for Valerie’s newsletter, and don’t forget to follow/subscribe to the Story Nerd podcast wherever you listen to your favourite pods! 🙂

A career in the publication industry means I get to combine two of my biggest passions—stories/storytelling and helping others—and put them into practice every day. I do this because I enjoy the art of writing and shaping stories and because it brings me joy to help others strengthen their writing skills and move past their vulnerabilities.

Whether you’re looking for guidance into the next stage of your draft, help generating ideas in an area you’re stuck on, or a set of professional eyes to tidy those typos (and more!), I can help you polish those pages and get them ready for querying or publication.

Below is one of my clients, with whom I’ve collaborated on two projects, and I just wanted to share his most recent testimonial because it’s just so sweet and made my day! He told me earlier that he selected me over working with the editor for The Martian and I could not be happier. This is why I do what I do and put everything I am into my clients’ work! ?

If you’re looking for my literary agent website, you can find that here. Please note: I am unable to offer representation for a full manuscript I’ve been hired to edit, but I can represent a manuscript of which I’ve only edited partial pages (up to 25).

I now have a bookshop.org affiliate page! You can check out my lists of fiction, nonfiction, craft books, and clients’ books at Foxx’s Favourite Finds! Instead of buying your books from Amazon or some other big company, support your local indie bookstore and get it from Bookshop.org instead! It also supports the author and it helps support the work I do too. I’m still building my lists there, and will be adding to them all the time. These are books I’ve cherished, books I’ve worked on as an editor or agent, and books I recommend to help with the craft of storytelling.

NEW! Check out my new You Tube playlist!

Wordcraft Wednesdays (also seen on my socials under #WordcraftWednesdays) is all about the micro, line-level stuff. These quick videos offer bite-sized advice for those wishing to elevate their writing on a line-level.
